Key points to remember:
- Rocks are made from minerals.
- Minerals can be identified by their properties (hardness, luster, cleavage, streak, color).
- The three types of rocks are: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic
- Rocks are classified by the way in which they form.
- Igneous rocks are formed from volcanoes when magma or lava cools.
- Sedimentary rocks are formed by weathering and erosion, or when sediments cement together.
- Metamorphic rocks are formed by heat and pressure.
- Over long periods of time, rocks can change from one type to another.
